Go together like birds of a feather

Over the past few years I've been paying a bit more attention to the cover art for the songs I write.  I never realized how important the visual aspect of the music can be (and it can be very important)!

Cover art goes together with the music like... birds of a feather go together.  When I think of my favorite song or album I immediately picture the visual of the artwork associated with it!  That's the image I see in my mind every time I hear the music.

I've created various cover art designs for songs that I've uploaded online.  It all started when I was required to have cover art for selling my music.  The designs have become much more meaningful and complex than when I first began and now cover art design is just as important to me as the song itself is.

While I was sitting having a cup of coffee and working on the latest design for my most recent song "Can't Get You" (and maybe it was the caffeine in the coffee, or maybe something that just clicked inside my head) I had an idea for the cover art of the song to use something that genuinely inspired me rather than do something completely out of the blue.  After creating the cover art I knew I had to credit or link to what had inspired me.  In this case, it was a Facebook page and the logo on that page.

After some brainstorming I figured out that it would be cool to make a connection between my page and other pages.  I think the ability to form connections and endorse other products or people or businesses that really deserve recognition is one of the coolest things about social media.  You can share with your fans or followers something that you really think is top quality!  This was when I got an idea for how I would like to design my future cover art for the songs I post up online.

The idea goes something like this: I have a Facebook page for my music and people out there have Facebook pages for various other businesses, organizations, groups, artists, and many other things, so why not use the linking power of the internet to endorse pages that I feel are truly great?

I already have a number of pages lined up that would just fit perfectly for creating cover art to link their way.  As I finish and post songs I will be creating cover art that is inspired by those other Facebook pages and then linking up to them.  It's fun and it's challenging, and it's a great way to help those pages I link to gain some more exposure.

So be sure to check out the pages that inspire the cover art on my upcoming tunes!
