An idea I had tonight about submitting to music blogs

When I got home after work tonight I had to do some dishes before I could make dinner.  When I do dishes... or pretty much anything cleaning or things that are of that nature... even going for a run or walk... I put on my headphones.  Sometimes I actually listen to music.  But most of the time I just listen to podcasts and iTunes U casts... or audio books.

Well tonight I'm doing my dishes and I'm listening to an iTunes U thing from Yale Business school on entrepreneurship's things.  I might be able to find the link to it... hold on...

http://itunes.apple.com/us/itunes-u/yale-entrepreneurial-institute/id384902524

There we go.  Ok that's the series.  I was listening to number 19... the guy is Seth Sternberg and he is the co-founder of Meebo.

Meebo is... here: www.meebo.com/

The whole series is actually really good.  Each person is an entrepreneur that started something big.  Pretty much every person that I've listened to as one of the speakers each episode is someone that started a business that I've recognized.

Well so I'm listening to this guy speak and doing some dishes and cleaning some things so that I can make my dinner which by the way was... awesome.  I had 2 eggs and an english muffin.  Mmmm Mmmmm!

So he's talking about starting meebo.  And well really he's talking about starting pretty much any website related startup.  But he's discussing VC funding... VC is the lingo they use a lot for Venture Capitalist.  It's actually a little tricky at first because they use a lot of terms that you kinda pick up on the way... in some of the episodes they actually get pretty technical!  But I'm following along... every now and then I do have to stop and look something up.  But mostly it's pretty business oriented.  I've taken a number of business classes so I know a good deal about most of the terms.

Ok, well he kind of walks through the setup of what someone would actually do once they have a great idea... after the whole thing is setup and actually in production and ready to be used by people in a live environment he said one thing that I found interesting...

He said well why not go to a few blogs and ask for them to write up about you.  Then he said you'll probably get a lot of traffic from that but it will quickly level back down... so then you do a revamp and make some changes as suggested by users and then contact a few more blogs... get more exposure.  Then make more changes and so on.

This gave me an idea!  If someone can contact blogs and ask them to do a post about their business.  Well... I mean what's to say that I can't contact a music blog and ask that they cover my music?!?!

I guess the same could be true for all kinds of business's out there. But I was thinking well couldn't it apply to music?!?!  So I searched around to see if there were music blogs that take submissions.

I found this...

http://www.blogs.com/topten/10-popular-indie-music-blogs/

AND the very first one I clicked on... "3Hive" actually has a contact us part at the bottom... and you can send them MP3's and your site for submission!  They may or may not post it.  But hey that's pretty neat!  I clicked on some other ones and it looks like they could also take submissions.  So what I'm going to do is just submit my music and site to a bunch of music blogs to see if I can get a post.  I think that would be pretty cool.  I'm super excited about that idea and hopefully one of them will put me on their blog.
