Videos for your mind… online.

I work at a college.  So yes, I'm commonly referred to as "The IT Guy".   So it would make sense that two things I would enjoy as much as writing and recording music are Computer related things (working in the IT field) and educational content (working at a College).  I also enjoy watching things, but i'm pretty sure that's a universal enjoyment or TV and movies wouldn't be so popular around the world!  As Dane Cook asks "Who doesn't love a cinematic adventure?"  So i've decided to make a post about the combination of those 3 things.  Video sites online that feed the mind.

The following are some video sites I enjoy checking out and browsing from time to time.  You won't be granted a degree from any of these sites, but you can learn pretty much nearly the same information that you could by sitting in a class room and it's completely free!  That's kinda the opposite of college... college is not so free... in fact, it's really quite expensive!  Well at least in america it is.  From what I understand in some other countries around the world education at the university level is not nearly as much as it is here, or it's entirely supported by other means such as the state.  I suppose that could be Good, or Bad, or just different.  Anywho, so if you don't have the beans to pay for a degree and don't live in a country with state supported educational systems but you still have the thirst and hunger to learn stuffs and things then this is your lucky day!!!

1. Academic Earth - http://www.academicearth.org

Free online video lectures from universities such as UC Berkeley, UCLA, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale in the subjects of Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, English, Entrepreneurship, History, Law, Mathematics, Medicine, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, and Religion.

This site has entire lectures for entire courses.  I've watched a few entire classes so far... electricity and magnetism, and building dynamic websites were two of my favs.

2. Big Think - http://bigthink.com

Interviews, presentations, and discussions with major intellectuals from a wide range of fields.

3. Youtube EDU - http://www.youtube.com/edu

Good old fashioned youtube... but this page displays only videos posted from universities.

4. FORA TV - http://fora.tv

Unmediated video drawn from live events, lectures, and debates at universities, think tanks and conferences.

5. TED Ideas worth spreading - http://www.ted.com

A global set of conferences curated by the American private non-profit Sapling Foundation, formed to disseminate "ideas worth spreading".
iTunes U is another one I enjoy.  It's not a site per say but it's built into iTunes.  Any PC or Mac with iTunes on it can access all of the iTunes U content for free.

I am sure there are many other sites that I currently don't know about but these are my 5 favorite ones.  I am glad to be able to share them with everyone who reads my blog and I hope you can "get your learn on" too!
