Comedy short video stuff

A while back I talked about comedymation... My funny flash animations that I wanted to do by cutting up construction paper... welllllll I've been trying to work on those and it's hard!  I'm still going to try doing a construction paper flash thing.  But I've had an idea recently that I THINK might work better.  Not just be more feasible but also give more the feel that I actually want of the comedymation thing.

For my vision of this comedymation thing I'm kind of seeing this thing in my head where it's much more animation of live video.  Hmmm I think the best way to describe it is a combination of the eyes I put on the lunchboxes in my video blog... and the faces I made for my Klean Kanteens.  I want to actually make things out of construction paper and various other fabrics and materials and almost like puppets except they will be more construction paper objects.  Then I'll record live video and try to piece it together with audio to make my comedy.

I'm going to take the my first comedymation that I've been trying to make in flash but I keep running into technical issues.  I THINK it will be WAY funnier and cooler if I do it as a live action construction paper thing.  I don't want to give too much away.  So I'm going to keep it under wraps... but So far I've gotten the script written and the audio tracks recorded.  So all I need to do is just create the construction paper cut outs make a little filming staging area and then film the clips to the backing track.  Then I'll put all the clips together and bam... I'll be able to post it up!

I also have an idea for a video blog number 2.  I started kind of outlining that as well.  Finally I'm working on a little rock tune that is starting to sound pretty sweet.  So I should have lots of good stuff coming up!  I should have 2 videos and a song all in the relatively near future.  I'm excited about it all.

I think I'd really like to get into the workflow of alternating between posting a song and then a video of some sort.   Be it a funny short comedy construction paper thing, a video blog, or even a live version of one of my songs.  I DEFINITELY want to post up live versions of my songs.  So yea, very exciting cool things to come!  I think the new song sounds pretty neat and the comedy construction paper thing should be pretty funny and my next video blog once I get that underway should be a good bit hilariousness as well.

Oh so this is kind of random... but lately I've been drinking this coffee every morning in my new Klean Kanteen insluated...

I randomly bought it a little while ago when I was food shopping one time... ummmm...

It's SOOOOOOOOOOOO good!  Seriously, it tastes so good!  I look forward to my little cup of coffee each morning.  Then afternoon I do green tea or black tea.  And evening is usually some mellow chamomile tea or something.

Well anywho it's about time for me to get to sleep.  It's almost 12:30 and I'm still awake!  It's because I took a nap after work... but it was an accidental nap.  It was still pretty sleeptastic.  Well, I'm off to sleep/dreamland... goodnight!

An idea I had tonight about submitting to music blogs

When I got home after work tonight I had to do some dishes before I could make dinner.  When I do dishes... or pretty much anything cleaning or things that are of that nature... even going for a run or walk... I put on my headphones.  Sometimes I actually listen to music.  But most of the time I just listen to podcasts and iTunes U casts... or audio books.

Well tonight I'm doing my dishes and I'm listening to an iTunes U thing from Yale Business school on entrepreneurship's things.  I might be able to find the link to it... hold on...

http://itunes.apple.com/us/itunes-u/yale-entrepreneurial-institute/id384902524

There we go.  Ok that's the series.  I was listening to number 19... the guy is Seth Sternberg and he is the co-founder of Meebo.

Meebo is... here: www.meebo.com/

The whole series is actually really good.  Each person is an entrepreneur that started something big.  Pretty much every person that I've listened to as one of the speakers each episode is someone that started a business that I've recognized.

Well so I'm listening to this guy speak and doing some dishes and cleaning some things so that I can make my dinner which by the way was... awesome.  I had 2 eggs and an english muffin.  Mmmm Mmmmm!

So he's talking about starting meebo.  And well really he's talking about starting pretty much any website related startup.  But he's discussing VC funding... VC is the lingo they use a lot for Venture Capitalist.  It's actually a little tricky at first because they use a lot of terms that you kinda pick up on the way... in some of the episodes they actually get pretty technical!  But I'm following along... every now and then I do have to stop and look something up.  But mostly it's pretty business oriented.  I've taken a number of business classes so I know a good deal about most of the terms.

Ok, well he kind of walks through the setup of what someone would actually do once they have a great idea... after the whole thing is setup and actually in production and ready to be used by people in a live environment he said one thing that I found interesting...

He said well why not go to a few blogs and ask for them to write up about you.  Then he said you'll probably get a lot of traffic from that but it will quickly level back down... so then you do a revamp and make some changes as suggested by users and then contact a few more blogs... get more exposure.  Then make more changes and so on.

This gave me an idea!  If someone can contact blogs and ask them to do a post about their business.  Well... I mean what's to say that I can't contact a music blog and ask that they cover my music?!?!

I guess the same could be true for all kinds of business's out there. But I was thinking well couldn't it apply to music?!?!  So I searched around to see if there were music blogs that take submissions.

I found this...

http://www.blogs.com/topten/10-popular-indie-music-blogs/

AND the very first one I clicked on... "3Hive" actually has a contact us part at the bottom... and you can send them MP3's and your site for submission!  They may or may not post it.  But hey that's pretty neat!  I clicked on some other ones and it looks like they could also take submissions.  So what I'm going to do is just submit my music and site to a bunch of music blogs to see if I can get a post.  I think that would be pretty cool.  I'm super excited about that idea and hopefully one of them will put me on their blog.

Open Stage Music Venue Idea

I'm kind of just writing about an idea that I had at one point.  I think it would be REALLY cool.  I think this would be a pretty neat experiment to try and setup and run.  Maybe one day I might try to make this an actual reality just to see how it goes.

So here's my idea:

I want to make a venue that's kind of like a small coffee shop.  It's just got some tables and chairs and things.  Then there's a small stage and a speaker system.  Just like a regular open mic.

But......

This open mic is slightly different.  It's not JUST an open mic for one night.  This venue is open mic EVERY night!  So... every night you can come between maybe 5pm and 10pm.  Either you can just listen.  OR you can play!  Or read a poem.  Or maybe tell a joke!  but keep it clean.  This is an all ages venue.  So it's an open stage.  But since it's tough to have a host every single night... I think that instead there will be a little computer like they have at some haircut places.  When you show up you just put your name in.  And then it just adds your name to the queue.

If there's no one on stage you just get to go right then and there!  If there's people on stage or waiting... you'll be queued up next!

Actually it's kind of like bowling.  So... like how you put your name in on bowling... and it shows up on the screen so everyone can see... wait... YES!  So you put your name in and not only does it keep track of the acts.  But also there's a GIANT TV screen behind the stage and it displays the name you typed really cool looking and all like in fancy font and if you typed in a website it will show that too!

So that way everyone can see your website and name displayed behind you while you play.  I think that some other awesome things would be for the whole thing to be broadcast live via the web.  So then anyone can log in to see you play.  That way if you have friends or family living far away and want to see you play live you can head to this open stage place and they can log in and see where you are in queue.

Maybe as well it can automatically record and save your time on stage to a youtube account or something if you provide that information.  I think another cool thing would be to save back data of who played when.  So let's say a person just decided to go watch an open stage one Tuesday night at 7pm.  They saw this awesome person play but then they had to leave unexpectedly for some reason or another.  Well that's no problem!  They can go on the website and then look up that time and see who played!  And if the person entered their website they can just click on the link and go right to that person's website!

I think if one venue in one city is successful... they could be opened all over.  Then everyone who wants to show their stuff can head to the closest open stage and sing/dance/rhyme/joke it up!

Another cool thing could maybe be that people can leave comments and reviews and things on each act as they watch it online or even live in the actual venue.  Then the act can log in and see the comments after to help improve their live performance.

There are definitely a lot of options and possibilities to work with here.

Anywho that's my idea.  I'll keep working at it and maybe see how feasible it would be to setup something like that in real life!  It would really be pretty cool I think to get something like that off the ground.

I sat down on my couch with some tea to write a blog post

And fell asleep!  I just woke up.  I'm going to head back to bed!  I was just super tired I guess.  But I decided that I wanted to at least post something.  Since my head is all foggy and i'm a bit out of it after falling asleep I'm just going to post something quick and humor related.  Does anyone else have that happen... when they doze off and then wake up it's like you are all confused and disoriented.  Especially since all the lights are still on and stuffs.

OK let's seeeeee.... something funny.  Hmmmmmm... OH!  I know.  Ok I found this today... we are signing up for this thing at work so that students can get microsoft products to help with their schooling in the tech department.  Like it's for the compcsci students and all.... so they can download like Microsoft server and SQL and things like that to learn on them... anyways...

on the front page they have this picture and we loaded it up and the guy in the middle but slightly to the left we looked at his hairdoo and I was like I should do my hair like that!!!  And then all of us were laughing for like 10 minutes solid...

If the image doesn't load just go to www.dreamspark.com

Look at that hair!!!!  HOW IS IT STAYING UP LIKE THAT?!?!?!?!?!

I should totally do my hair like that... right?  OK... I'm still deciding on if I should.

But just seriously look at that hair!  It's like a half a foot high!  Ok now just think of ME with that hair.  Yea?  Maaaaaaaaaybe?  Ok I'll sleep on it.  I think I would have to grow my hair out some for it to be like that.

Anywho that's my funny thing post for tonight.  It's back to sleep for me!  Night.

Just a wednesday night blog post and a funny dream post (a two in one!)

I think tonight I'm going to blog about a couple random things...

First is something that I'm pretty sure I haven't written on before.  So this is just a little behind the scenes on my music making deal...

So when I make music there's this thing that happens.  It's sort of like a snowball effect... I think that's the best way to look at it.  So my process starts with bits and pieces of ideas... just a little small little bit of an idea here and a little bit of an idea there.  They slowly start to stick together and finally coalesce to form one super duper awesome whole song.  Then I start working on the actual  recording of the song.  First I build up a small little framework of how I want the song layed out.

Next I play along live with the framework and make adjustments until I know that's how I want it to sound.

Then I start laying down tracks here and there.  Eventually the gaps just kind of start to fill in slowly and then it starts to turn into a finished product quicker and quicker.  It's interesting because at first it sort of takes me a while to get steam... or momentum to really get going.  But once I pass a certain point... it kind of just snowballs and I work on it more and more and more until bam... it's done.

I think I'm starting to get to that point with my next song.  I've FINALLY gotten to the part where I'm starting to lay down tracks and fill in gaps and it's really starting to pick up steam and start to sound more and more like a full finished song.

That's sort of with most things I work on creatively.  It's very slow going at first and then it gains this momentum where it starts to just take off and things happen very fast at the end!  I'd be interested to see if I could figure out a way to make things just have lots of momentum from the start!

Perhaps drinking more coffee might help?  Although... that might just make me all jittery.  I usually drink one cup of coffee in the AM time while I work away at work.  Seems to start my day off with a pep in my step!  Or rather a pep in my type!  Since I work with computers and all.

Hmmmm oh sooooooooo last night I had this weird dream where I found out my fridge was a time machine...

But first I had to take everything out of it to get inside.  And then before I climbed in I had to set the dial for super cold to go back in time... or warmer to go forward in time.

Although the whole dream was just about trying to figure out how it worked.  I never actually time traveled in the dream.  once I finally had the hang of things the dream was over... hmmmm maaaaaaaaaybe tonight I'll get part two of the dream?!?!?!

It wasn't a super funny dream it was just... odd.

Oooooohhhh I DID have a funny dream though a little while ago!

I had a dream a few weeks ago where I had to keep giving people rides places... it was just people I know... and I was driving around in my car...

and EVERY few minutes someone new would tap me on the shoulder and ask if I could take them to somewhere.  Some asked to be taken to the mall... and some wanted to go get food at a restaurant... and some were asking to go like across the country!

But people just kept showing up in my back seat... and tapping me on the shoulder.  It was just like HOW many people are back there!?!?!  But I couldn't look back because I was driving.

And I kept getting more and more worried because in my front seat were a few containers of ice cream I bought... and I just kept thinking how bad I needed to get home to put the ice cream away in my freezer!!!!

And I kept trying to turn the AC down but every time I would look at it the nob would slowly keep moving back to heat on it's own!

And more people were showing up in the back seat tapping on my shoulder and saying hey Kennnnnnnnny!  Can you take me down the street?  Can you take me to the mall?  Can you take me to the bar?  Can you take me really far?

And my ice cream was melting!  And... yea... it was weird.  It was really rather weird but kinda funny.  Well it's time for me to see what interesting/funny/random thing I dream about tonight!  Night!
