My 15 Hour Nap

Yep.  I took a 15 hour nap last night.

I got home yesterday and took at nap at about maybe 4:30.  I figured I would take maybe a 1 or 2 hour nap.  After a nice little nap I was going to work on some music and just read and have a nice quiet relaxing evening.  Apparently I was REALLY tired because I ended up sleeping a WAY longer time than a 1, 2 or even 3 hour nap.

I went to sleep at 4:30 pm... and I woke up at around 7:30... AM.  At first I was like oh I slept a little longer than I planned... thinking I had slept from 4:30pm to 7:30PM... 3 hours... not bad.

Then I looked at my phone again and realized that it was AM.  WHOA... I slept THAT long!?  Wow.

I hate when the reverse happens though.  You know when you think you've slept longer than you really did? When I nap for a few hours and think I slept all night and I only have like 10 minutes to get ready for work.  Then I'll realize it was only a few hours.  In this case it WAS the whole night.  Luckily I don't have anything happening today and I can just relax.

I guess I must have been really, REALLY tired because I slept a total of 15 hours.  I stayed up pretty late thursday night from drinking 2 cups of coffee at the open mic and not being able to fall asleep and then I had to get up early to be at work for this software upgrade thing to one of the main systems that everyone uses.  I was then off work at 1pm and went for a good long run in the park across the street from the college.  It's my favorite place to run and the trails just rock.  I put on an audiobook and made my way through one of the many paths.  The reason why I like it so much is because every time I run I can take one of several different paths and so it takes sometime to repeat the same experience.  Keeps things interesting and refreshing.

My mom asked if we could meet for lunch after the run.  So I said ok.  We just went to the same place that we always go down the street from her house.  It's some bar pub place that isn't really anything special but they make a mean crab cake sandwich.  She always thinks the main area is too loud so she asks to sit in the back.  It's always fine by me as long as I get my crab cake sandwich.  Mmmmmmmmm.

I'm actually glad this time that we sat in the back because when we walked in some random dude that looked like he just stepped off a yacht or came from a golf tornament was staring at us or maybe me awkwardly... I kept looking around and every time I would look back to that direction he was staring right at me!  I thought I was going to be called out by him for a dance off or something.

YOU... dance floor NOW.  Let's see who's got the best skills!  I could probably have handled myself ok though in a dance off.

I guess maybe he could have just been looking at something going on outside the entrance behind me?  Although the dude and the other dude he was sitting with were positioned so that they saw everyone walking in the main entrance.  So maybe they were just sizing up everyone that walks in as potential dance off material?  Maybe a dance off did eventually happen and I missed it?

Still...

It was a lower level mildly creeeeeepy kinda of moment.  it was definitely one most awkward minute.  I was glad we were sitting in the back and not in the main seating area.  Although honestly, he was probably just staring in my direction listening to the guy next to him yapping in his ear and not staring at me at all.

I forgot all about the dance off dude once I was chowing down on my deliciousness of a sandwich. yum.

Then I took my mom back home and did a couple of chores around the house for her.  Drove back here to my place and passed out.

And that's how my 15 hour nap happened.  And a dance off did not.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

Tonight I was on my way out for a run when I noticed that my neighbor across the hall had left her keys in the door.  I immediately was worried and thought the worst.  I knocked on her door twice and got no answer.  I wasn't sure if I should call the police or the landlord or what.  At the same time, it wasn't anything drastic, like the door wasn't smashed in and I didn't see any sign of anything super out of place besides the keys left in the door.  I struggled with maybe should I call someone or just go for my run and then come back and knock again if the keys were still there.  I just wasn't sure if I would be like over stepping boundaries by continuing to knock or calling someone.  I know it's always better to be safe than sorry and I didn't want to do nothing and then have had something bad happen!

I decided ok, i'll go for my run and if the keys are gone when I get back maybe I'll just check in on her by knocking again?  I wasn't sure if knocking again would be overstepping the bounds either??!?!  I went for my run and when I came back the keys were gone and I could hear the TV from the hallway.  Which was normal.  Usually you can hear TV's from the hallway if they are on loud enough.  Usually I hear her's and another one when I am coming home sometimes from work.  This settled my mind.  I assumed that she just forgot to take her keys out.  I mean who hasn't left their keys in the door at least 1 time.  If you are stressed out or carrying a lot of groceries and COMPLETELY forgot you had the keys in the door or maybe you just had to pee soooooooooo bad and you left them in the door.

It reminded me of that story though "The Parable of the Good Samaritan" one.

If you aren't familiar you can read it here:  http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+10%3A25-37&version=NIV

I kind of always question you know like how much do you help and how far do you go?  I don't know, I feel like tonight I maybe should have actually just called the landlord right away or something.  I always second guess if I'm doing the right thing and try to seek out confirmation as to if it's ok or not.  In this situation I couldn't do that.  So I guess I did all that I should have?  I don't know if I should have done more and actually checked up or even gone as far as to call the police.  But I definitely think keeping an eye out for neighbors and those around you and just lending a helping hand to those around you that might be in need of it is the way to go.

After all, I've definitely come to learn that we really are all just as valuable as the next person.  No one is more important or better than the next person.  Each of us has something to offer and I think when you look at people at the core we are all good.  Everyone is definitely put here to do something and each person has something unique about them.

I think I was definitely put on this earth to help those around me.  I usually do that in the form of computer help... but I try to help in other ways.  It always troubles me as to how people can purposely be malicious and do things to people like hurt them or steal from them.  I mean, I'll admit that sometimes I say stupid things, but I definitely always regret them as soon as I say them and then immediately  want to apologize to the person.  I think the best I can do is just try to keep bettering myself as a person and try to keep being the best person I can be to those around me... either those I know like friends, family or coworkers or even strangers.

I think it's best to just always try to think what the right thing to do is around other people and them perhaps just try to seek confirmation that all is well.

Well that was my evening.  So to everyone out there on the internet world... be peaceful and be well.  I hope everyone has a problem free and super fantastic day tomorrow.  Just cherish the little things that come your way and don't worry too much about any troubles that might pop up either.  Hopefully they can be easily resolved! So, yep... peace and chicken grease... or something like that.

Day off!

Tomorrow I have the day off!  YES!  It's a comp day in exchange for working last Saturday.  I'm a fan of days offs because I enjoy just knowing that I don't have to get my butt out of bed early the next morning.

Here's what I always plan for days off:  I ALWAYS make an excel sheet of some sort that's a thousand (not really a thousand, really like 15 items, I'm just trying to give you a mental picture of having super amounts of things to do) lines long with things I plan to do.  Then I say to myself: "ALRIGHT I'm going to get ALL OF THIS DONE!  GO ME!  Let's do this!"

Then all of a sudden it's 4pm and i'm still sitting next to my empty cereal bowl in my PJ's with my laptop looking up random facts on penguins or something.  Because we all know Penguins rock and are also super cool.  Of course how can they not be cool being from the south pole and all.

Some Random Penguin facts: A group of Penguins is called a rookery.  Penguins mate for life. Male Penguins take care of the little baby chicks while the female goes and gets the food.  Who's wearing the pants in THAT relationship?  Or tux rather?

Also... Penguins are just freakin awesome.

Seeeee don't they look awesome there?

I mean ok... here let me prove to you how awesome penquins are.

Example A: the Madagascar 2 penguins...

Well, these guys are mostly just funny.  Actually they are slightly devious.  And maybe mischievous... but they are still pretty funny!  And they just make me laugh.

You know you love em.

The second supporting evidance or Example B:

Is the penguins from Mary Poppins... I LOVE THESE GUYS:

This is the best scene in that movie

Ok and LAST is this new movie Mr. Popper's Penguins which I think actually is a remake:

I SOOOOO WANT TO SEE THIS!  OK... sorry I just love penguins.

Oh and ALSO the linux logo is a penguin.  And we all know that linux is awesome.  This website is run on linux.

So I think i've proved my point about penguins.  But if you don't share my view, that's ok, it makes me slightly sad... but everyone has different views and it's ok.  Everyone has their own favorites.

Hmmm...

So here's what I've decided.  Instead of planning to do 1o thousand million things and not get them done.  I'm just going to aim low and then if I do more it will be a successful day!  My only plan is to just watch at least one standup comedy on netflix to prepare for my comedy open mic thing.  And also... get my joke "set list" finalized.  I have way more that I want to say then I know I have time for in the short set that we get on stage.  So I need to prune down the list and only use the best ones.  Then I need to rehearse those a few times.  I spent tonight kind of testing out the jokes just me and my living room.  I hope no one peered in my one open window and saw me just standing there talking to myself while holding a microphone not plugged into anything.  This is new, so I'm not exactly sure how you practice stand-up comedy?

So, yep.  There.  That's it.  Ok I mean obviously I'll do the normal things like make meals and take a shower and brush my teeth.  But besides that.  My only real plan will be that comedy thing.  Also Maybe I might read.  Ok ok and also I'll play some guitar.

And ummmm maybe go for a run.  This is turning into a list again isn't it?

darn.

Well, how about this.  I'll just kind of do whatever comes to me tomorrow.  I won't plan anything and if my day ends up being like something out of a Harold and Kumar movie and I'm suddenly hanging out with Neil Patrick Harris... then I'm fine with that.  Just remind me to get an autograph.

Well until next time.... have a fantastic Wednesday!

Joke Joke Jooooooooooke

The title is... two short jokes and one long joke.

Get it?  You know you are laughing.

Well anywho so I've decided that I'm going to try something new.  I mean, stepping out of ones element and trying something new sometimes makes things in life interesting right?!?  So what I've decided I'm going to do is a comedy act.  Why?  Well, I've played a fair amount of shows, and usually I'm able to say lots of funny things in-between doing songs.  Generally people laugh.  Usually I'm pretty good at being the one who makes everyone laugh in the group.  Soooooo I've decided that I'm going to try doing a comedy act and see how it goes.

If it bombs then it bombs... I mean I can always just go back to playing songs again.  I think it could be fun to stand up there with the mic and try to be a funny story teller dude and try to get everyone really into it and going.

The other thing is nearly all open mics are people playing guitar and singing which is what I do!  So I figured this will be different and at least a change of pace.

ok but... there's one problem.

Here's the problem...

The open mic is streamed on their website live!  Actually last week my dad even tuned in and watched me perform... that was pretty fun.  He called me the next day and was like that was sooooo awesome.  But you know parents always think everything their kids do is awesome.

That just makes me extra nervous though!  I should probably start out at maybe a different open mic or maybe try doing the act in front of friends... but I figure it's just good fun... it's something I do in my free time for a good clean fun evening... so I'll just  think of it that way.

Also, I'll think of everyone in their underwear or something.

I'll post a blog the night after I go on... I'll let everyone know the deal.  I might bring along a little video camera and try to video it and post up the video.  Oh gosh, I'm nervous just typing it now!  But at the same time... I'm kind of excited for it too!  We'll seeeeeeeeeee.

The best apple I have ever had

So... I had a pretty positive experience today.  I've had this apple for the last half of the last week in my lunch bag and I keep meaning to eat it.  But I never do.  I always get to the end of the work day and find I've eaten everything else in my lunch except for the apple.

So I finally just brought it home and put it on the table that I walk by the most so it would stare at me and I'd finally get sick of this show down gunslinger thing we have going on and finally I'd just be like OK apple... let's do this! (insert wild wild west music here)

Well... it took like an extra day... but finally I was like I'm going to eat you up little apple!

and I did.  And it was amazingly delicious!  I think it was actually the second best apple i've ever had.

SO what was the positive experience I got out of this?  Well, basically it was that here's this apple that I'd just not been really paying much attention to and all of a sudden I eat it and it's just like wow!  So I think this was kind of a reminder to me to say hey... you never know when sweet surprises will come at you in life.  So just live your life and let the positive things come as they do.  I def need to do that, I always think that I'm supposed to be seeking them out... but I think I've found that the things I am supposed to have in my life will seek me out.

I definitely have found that to be true.  Just go about your life and know that sweet delicious apples will eventually show up when you are least expecting it.  So... go positive thoughts and energy and all that stuffs!

Hmmm oh so if that was the second most delicious apple then what was the most delicious apple i've ever had?  Well the most delicious apple was when I was hiking Mt. Washington for the first time when I was maybe 12?  I forget the exact age.  I guess this was exactly the random sweet surprise that I was talking about... but about half way up we all stopped at a waterfall to rest and this random dude came by and just asked if any of us wanted apples... and we all said ok.

He started handing out apples to everyone and even stayed there and ate one with us then he went on his merry way.

I've never had a more delicious apple ever.  I think honestly it might have been the most delicious thing I've actually ever eaten... ever.

But yea... I don't know it was a random act of kindness and it was just awesome.

Random acts of kindness are awesome and I think I'd love to start doing that.  I wish I could start a club or something where we go around once a week and just do random acts of kindness to strangers for an hour or 2.  That would rock.

ok well... That's all I got for now on the topic of yummy apples.

Invisible Cheeseburger

Invisible cheeseburger

So this is my dream from last night.  I’m titling the post and the dream Invisible Cheeseburger.

Why?

Well, let’s find out!

The dream started out on a gas station roof top (because where else would you start a dream?).  This was no ordinary gas station rooftop.  This was covered in crops.   Mostly corn.  People were growing food on top of gas stations as far as I could see.  There were bridges to other gas station rooftops and they were all interconnected in a giant network.  I stopped someone and asked what was going on?  They told me to go over to the edge and have a look.  So I went over to the edge.  I looked down and saw lots and lots of… cats.

Giant cats... Whoa… hello kitty.  Nice kitty.

Of course I decided to reach out to pet one of the cats (yep, that’s how giant these cats were).  As I leaned out to pet one of the giant near gas station roof top size cats…

They tried to bite me!

whoa there cat.

Then, a guy came up behind me and did the fake push you off the edge thing like people do when you are standing next to a pool with all your clothing on and they are trying to be funny and psych you out.

I said “whoa please don’t do that dude!  You scared the crap out of me! You almost pushed me into the lions!”

He said “relax, you’re fine, they aren’t lions… just cats”

I say “no… they are LIONS!”

He waits a moment looks out into the lion cats walking and then looks at me and says “Hey listen apparently Wal-Mart is now selling giant cat collars to tame these things so we can all come off the roof tops now.  A bunch of us… we were going to go…. You wanna come along?”

I said “yea ok.”

Somehow suddenly I’m in Wal-Mart.

Walking around.  The dude… who is apparently my best friend but I have no idea who he is and I’m pretty sure I’ve never met him before is carrying a giant thing of laundry detergent.

So giant, it’s like the size of a water cooler water thing but filled with laundry detergent.

He says to me “check this out man… see this button on the bottom of this?  Push it.”

I push it.

I say “whoa.”

He says “yea man… found out that if you push the button on the bottom of all walmart products they all turn invisible and you can just walk right out with them.  Push yours and lets go.”

I say… “I just can’t do that.  I have to pay for my stuff.  I’m sorry, I just can’t do that.”

He said… “ok well if you insist.”

I look down at the two items I am carrying as we walk over to the only register open which happens to be the self check out.

I have...

A cheeseburger

And floss.

Suddenly I’m hungry.  I’m guessing the floss is for after I eat the cheeseburger.

So we are standing in line… it’s just me and him now and a lady with 4 carts.

There are 4 self checkouts.

She is using all 4.  She looks up at us….

She starts apologizing and says she will be done in a moment.  She only has a  few items in each cart and she thought it would be much faster to just do all 4 at the same time she didn’t think it would take this long.

We say it's ok not a problem and we'll wait.

I turn to my friend and say, "so why do you need all that invisible laundry detergent?"

He looks at me and just replies one word “cats.”

I just nod.

He says “what do you need that invisible cheeseburger?”

I look back and say “it’s not invisible… I never pushed the button.”

He just nods.

We stand there waiting....

and waiting...

He just says “Your cheeseburger is getting cold.  Let’s go find another check out.”

Then I can't seem to remember anything more than that.

Soooo yea…

I have weird dreams.
